Pasco Sheriff’s Office’s Economic Crimes Unit
The Pasco Sheriff’s Office’s Economic Crimes unit recently announced an investigation into businesses and individuals performing work without the necessary licenses. The reason for the investigation is to protect citizens of Pasco County from unlicensed contractors who might perform lower quality work not in compliance with building codes. An investigation in November 2024 resulted in 12 arrests.
As part of the sting operation, detectives used a staged home in the Gulf Harbors area in west Pasco County. The detectives then contact handymen to get them to agree to help with electrical, air conditioning, or structural aluminum services. Those who allegedly agreed to perform the work were arrested for misdemeanor charges of unlicensed contracting or felony charges for failure to carry workers’ compensation.
